Grounds maintenance in Chester-le-Street

Our base in Sacriston is about 4 miles south west of Chester-le-Street, so the town is right on our doorstep. Commercial grounds, communal lawns and home gardens, on a written schedule, with the owner doing the work.

Chester-le-Street

The closest town to our yard

Sacriston and Chester-le-Street used to share a district council, and the town is still the nearest one to our base at Unit 4 Plawsworth Road. That matters for grounds work. A site four miles from the yard is easy to fit in between visits, and easy to get back to if something needs looking at again.

Chester-le-Street has no town council of its own. The town is unparished, so the parks and verges the public own are Durham County Council's. The rest of the green space belongs to whoever owns the building next to it: landlords of business units, managing agents for blocks and estates, schools, care homes and homeowners. That is who this page is for.

The town grew up along the old A1, which once ran down Front Street before the A167 bypass and then the A1(M) took the traffic round it. East of the centre, Riverside Park and the county cricket ground sit on the flood plain of the Wear, and the park holds a Green Flag Award. That is the standard people see in the town's public space, and the grounds you are responsible for are judged next to it.

Who we work for in Chester-le-Street

Private grounds in a town with no town council

With no town council to hold a contract, the grounds here are looked after by the people who own them. These are the four we are set up for.

business Business units and offices Frontages, car park edges and boundary planting at units and offices across the town, cut and edged so the site looks cared for every day of the week.
apartment Managing agents and residential blocks Communal lawns, hedges and shrub beds around flats and estates, kept to the frequency the service charge covers and written down before the first visit.
school Schools and care homes Grounds that people use all day, so the work is planned around them. Hedges are cut outside the nesting season and sightlines at gates and paths are kept clear.
home Homeowners Grass cutting, hedges, tidy ups, turfing and fencing for houses in and around the town. Being this close to the yard makes a regular domestic cut simple to keep up.

FAQs

Chester-le-Street questions

Anything else, ask Reggie on the phone.

Is there a town council we should be talking to instead?expand_more
No. Chester-le-Street is unparished, so there is no town council. Public parks and verges are Durham County Council's to look after. We work for whoever owns the rest: businesses, managing agents, schools, care homes and homeowners.
Part of our site floods when it rains hard. Can you help?expand_more
The low ground by the River Wear and the Cong Burn is known to flood. Swale and drainage inspection is part of our seasonal work, so we can check the channels and swales on your grounds and tell you what we find.
How close are you?expand_more
Our base is at Unit 4 Plawsworth Road in Sacriston, about 4 miles south west of the town centre. We work across the whole of Chester-le-Street and the villages around it.
How often would you visit?expand_more
It changes through the year rather than staying fixed. Fortnightly from the first cut in spring, moving to every seven to ten days through peak growth in June and July, then easing off into autumn. The schedule is agreed and written down before the first visit.
Who would we be dealing with?expand_more
Reggie Tribuisis, the director. He provides direct oversight on every contract.
