Ushaw Moor and the Deerness Valley

A valley village with green on every side

Ushaw Moor sits on the north bank of the River Deerness. The old railway line along the valley is now the Deerness Valley Railway Path, eight miles of woodland walking, and it runs through the area. Fields and trees are never far from anyone's back fence.

The village was built for its pit, a drift mine opened in 1858 that closed in 1960. What stayed is a compact place with two primary schools, community buildings and streets of family houses. Small sites, close together, where grass and hedges get away quickly in a growing season.

Reggie Tribuisis owns Reggie T Landscapes and does the work himself. For a village this size that usually suits better than a big contractor: one person to ring, and a schedule written for the plot in front of him.

Who we work for in Ushaw Moor

From the parish down to the back garden

A village of this size has a handful of people responsible for its grounds. These are the ones we are set up to help.

FAQs

Ushaw Moor questions

Not covered here? Ask Reggie directly.

Do you cover the rest of the Deerness Valley?expand_more
Yes. Ushaw Moor, Brandon, Langley Park and the villages around them all sit inside the area we cover from Sacriston, about 3 miles to the north of Ushaw Moor.
Our garden backs onto the railway path or fields. Is that a problem?expand_more
No. Boundary hedges and grass beside a path or open land are ordinary work for us. Hedges are cut outside the bird nesting season, which matters more when the garden meets woodland.
When can hedges be cut?expand_more
Autumn and winter, once the bird nesting season has finished. Active nests are protected by law and the nesting season runs from roughly March to August, so hedge work is planned around it rather than squeezed in. If something has to be cut inside that window for a genuine safety reason, the hedge is checked for nests first.
How often would you visit?expand_more
It changes through the year rather than staying fixed. Fortnightly from the first cut in spring, moving to every seven to ten days through peak growth in June and July, then easing off into autumn. The schedule is agreed and written down before the first visit.
What documents can you provide before we commit?expand_more
Insurance details, risk assessments, method statements and references, all on request. Company details are public: Reggie T Landscapes Limited, registered in England and Wales, number 15496162, registered office Unit 4 Plawsworth Road, Sacriston, Durham DH7 6JX.
